Described in The New Yorker as an “immaculate and inventive recitalist,” the repertory of American baritone Thomas Meglioranza ranges from Baroque music and lieder recitals to roles in oratorios and contemporary opera.
Highlights from last season include an all-Hugo Wolf recital at Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, as well as the role of Lord Henry in Lowell Liebermann’s The Picture of Dorian Gray with Odyssey Opera, and Saint John in Louis Karchin’s Jane Eyre with the Center for Contemporary Opera. He also made his debut with the New York New Music Ensemble singing James Primosch’s Dark the Star.
Meglioranza’s discography includes three acclaimed albums of Schubert lieder and French mélodies with pianist Reiko Uchida; songs of Virgil Thomson with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project; and Bach cantatas with the Taverner Consort.
Reiko Uchida is a pianist of rare poetic quality. Her playing has been praised as “refi ned and exquisite” by The New York Times. Ms. Uchida made her New York solo debut in 2001 at Carnegie’s Weill Hall and
subsequently has performed solo and chamber music concerts in venues worldwide, including Suntory Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, The 92nd Street Y, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the
Kennedy Center, and The White House.
Together, they present songs by Wolf, Fauré, and Ives along with folk song arrangements by Beethoven. The concert concludes with a collection of American parlor and cabaret favorites.
